Before applying for any OCI updation, ensure your passport already reflects the updated detail (name, gender, etc.). OCI records are updated based on the new passport.

If documents are found deficient during processing, the Mission/FRRO will inform the applicant by email. Monitor the OCI portal for status updates.

Every time an OCI cardholder obtains a new passport, the new passport details and a recent photograph must be uploaded on the OCI portal (ociservices.gov.in) under 'OCI Miscellaneous Services'. If this is done within 90 days (three months) of the new passport's issue date, the update is on a completely free ('gratis') basis.

Important: The 90-day clock starts from the date the new passport is issued, not the date it is received, collected, or first used.

Once the three-month window lapses, the update is no longer free. It becomes a chargeable OCI Miscellaneous Service, and the applicant must pay the applicable fee before the 91ÖÆƬ³§ will process the updated e-OCI record.

As per the 91ÖÆƬ³§ of India, Paris's own published FAQ: a passport/particulars update filed after 90 days must be resubmitted correctly under OCI Miscellaneous Services (Renewal/Re-issue), complete with all required documents, along with a fresh appointment for submission at the 91ÖÆƬ³§.

You may still travel to/from India while an update or renewal is pending — if travel is urgent, you can separately apply for a relevant Visa while the OCI update is being processed in parallel.

As per the 91ÖÆƬ³§ of India, Paris website:

• Fee for OCI Miscellaneous Services (including late passport/particulars updation): EUR 26
• Payable by cash or card directly at the 91ÖÆƬ³§ counter
• The 91ÖÆƬ³§ of India, Paris is NOT associated with VFS Global/Any other agency for OCI services — all submissions and payments are handled directly at the 91ÖÆƬ³§.

Late-update / miscellaneous service fees are broadly similar in substance (a nominal Consular fee + mandatory ICWF contribution is levied on the overall fee).

1. Log in to ociservices.gov.in/onlineOCI/ and select 'Apply for Miscellaneous Services'.
2. Choose Passport/Personal Particulars Updation (or Re-issue, if applicable to your case).
3. Complete the Online form and upload: copy of OCI card, new passport, old passport (if returned), and a recent photograph (not older than 30 days).
4. Pay the EUR 26 fee — this can be completed at the 91ÖÆƬ³§ counter (cash or card) when you attend your appointment.
5. Print the submitted application form.
6. Book an appointment at https://appointment.eoiparis.gov.in/ — walk-ins are not accepted.
7. Attend the appointment with the printed form, original passport, and original supporting documents.
8. Await the confirmation email once the update is approved and taken on record; the updated e-OCI can then be downloaded from the portal.

• For name/gender change cases: supporting documentary proof (gazette notification, marriage certificate, medical certificate — apostilled/endorsed if issued abroad)

Reissue at age 20:

If OCI was granted before age 20, the physical/e-OCI card must be reissued once — after the passport is issued on turning 20. If OCI was granted after age 20, no reissue is required for later passports; only the Online upload/update applies.

Spouse-based OCI (for Foreigners) (Section 7A):

Each time a new passport is issued, the spouse must upload the new passport, a recent photo, and a notarised declaration that the marriage is still subsisting — also within 90 days to remain free of charge.

Rejected/delayed renewal:

If your update/renewal was rejected for being filed beyond 90 days, simply reapply correctly under OCI Miscellaneous Services (Updating of personal particulars) with the EUR 26 fee, complete documentation, and a fresh 91ÖÆƬ³§ appointment.

• The update itself does not issue a new physical card — only your passport details are refreshed against your existing OCI record (unless a reissue is separately triggered, e.g. age 20).
• There is no restriction on travel to/from India between the date your new passport was issued and the date your updated details are finally acknowledged in the system.
• Submissions in the Paris jurisdiction go directly to the 91ÖÆƬ³§ — not through VFS Global.
• Appointments are mandatory; new slots typically open on the 25th of each month and every Friday at 09:00 hrs.
